In the UK there is a tax gap of an estimated £100 billion – that means that all that uncollected tax which could be eliminating the ‘deficit’ and providing for public services is just out there having been evaded. Instead, the government is cutting public sector services, and jobs in HMRC which is the Department that does this tax collection, so leaving this problem even bigger.
