CONTACT CENTRE ANTI-INTIMIDATION CAMPAIGN 21/12/2010

As many of our members are aware, there are currently attempts by Sheffield Contact Centre to intimidate local reps for carrying out their regular duties. Well, round here we don’t take that kind of thing too well (and we certainly aren’t intimidated)…

Branch Equalities Officer, Kerry

Branch Organiser, Linda

Attempted intimidation of reps is one of the oldest union-busting tricks in the book, and something that this branch has unfortunately been victim to before. What is important is that we publicise these actions, and realise that these are in no way isolated incidents. Here we now have four out of our seven Contact Centre local reps being investigated at one time, and all for what are seemingly non-offences. Several of our reps have been threatened with disciplinary action for attending the monthly Branch Committee (BEC) meeting which all reps are elected to attend at our AGM by members. Our management’s interpretation of the DWP guidance means that they have attempted to ‘derecognise’ five of our seven reps as BEC members – going against both the industrial agreement and the democratic mandate of the members.

Recently we balloted for industrial action in the Contact Centre TPIP sites, which may move to the whole of CCD. Here is one of just many clear reasons why this action is crucial to retain our rights to terms and conditions and our right to organise as a union.
