DWP SHEFFIELD BRANCH STRIKE BULLETIN
VOTE YES TO THE STRIKE TO FIGHT CUTS TO JOBS, PENSIONS, PAY AND SERVICES!
By now you will have received your ballot paper for national strike action. The branch encourages you to vote ‘yes’ to both questions, and join the fight against cuts in the public sector.
If the ballot is successful, we will take industrial action on 30th June alongside our colleagues in the NUT, ATL and UCU unions nationally, with many local ballots across the country from even more (including NUJ and Unison). Other unions NASUWT, Unison and Unite should follow with another period of action soon after.
WHY SHOULD YOU VOTE YES?
It is vitally important that we turn out the highest possible vote on this ballot to show the strength of feeling against the cuts. In DWP thousands of fixed term contract workers have already lost their jobs, while unemployment rises. This means more people without work, but also increased pressure on an ever-shrinking workforce within the DWP. Our pay has also been frozen again which means a real time cut of around £60 a month for the average Jobcentre Plus worker. In addition, Civil Service management has slashed up the redundancy terms we took strike action over last year, abandoning the legal precedent set by the court victory.
Strike action is the only force that can change the onslaught to public jobs and services in the UK. It will send a message to the government of millionaires, that public sector workers are not willing to take their ideological attacks on working class people like ourselves.
JOIN THE PICKET LINE, JOIN THE RALLY
On the 30th June there will be action across the country in addition to the strikes. At Midday there will be a rally in the Peace Gardens, including PCS, NUT, ATL and UCU members in Sheffield as well as thousands of supportive workers and campaigners. We ask all members to join us on the picket line at their local office, and then attend this day of action.
