Lobby of Parliament

Office Closures and Compulsory Redundancies in DWP

PCS has arranged a lobby of Parliament over the issue of the proposed office closures and the threat of compulsory redundancies. The lobby will be held as follows:

Date:   Wednesday 2nd November 2011

Time:   13:00 – 15:00

Venue: House of Commons, Westminster

The aim of the lobby will be to persuade MPs to join our campaign against the closure of Jobcentre Plus offices and to raise their awareness of the negative impact this will have on customer service. There will be short speeches and then members will be encouraged to meet their Members of Parliament.

It is also an opportunity to make them fully aware of the threats to our members’ jobs and the madness of shutting offices and making staff redundant when unemployment is rising and workloads increasing.

It is very important that every branch that covers an office attends the lobby, especially reps and members from the threatened offices

themselves. In addition, reps from other branches who are concerned about this issue are also welcome to attend. If you will be attending, make sure to write to your MP and ask for an appointment by writing to them using the modified e action at pcs.org.uk/jobcentre. If your MP hasn’t replied then please still come and PCS Campaigns Officers will help you to try and arrange a meeting with your MP on the day.

It is essential that PCS DWP Group Office is told who is intending to attend the lobby so that

we can ensure that the relevant MP is made aware that you are planning to lobby them on the day. Please confirm attendance at the lobby by emailing leeds@pcs.org.uk as soon as possible.

Please note that anyone attending the lobby will have to do so in their own time. Expenses will be paid by PCS for attending the lobby but any travel costs etc must be kept to a minimum
