Join the Picket! Members Meetings Today! – All out on 20 March 19/03/2013

Posted by pcsdwpsheffield in Uncategorized.

There are members meetings outside in Hartshead Square today (19/3/13) at 12.00, 12.30 and 1pm. Please try your best to make one of them if you work in Hartshead/Cavendish.

We are also encouraging members to join their local picket line at their office tomorrow. There will be pickets at all sites from 7am through to 10am.

PCS Members voted 61% in favour of strike action to defend our pay, pensions, terms and conditions and jobs.

PCS has made every possible effort to resolve the dispute by negotiation. Despite repeated requests the government have refused to meet our union and won’t talk – so we must fight back.

That is why all PCS members are on strike on Wednesday 20 March.

Members in the DWP face:

  • Staff cuts when we need more staff not less.
  • Another year of pay cuts in real terms
  • Attacks on our conditions of service
  • Increases in pension contributions

Strike action does work

Taking strike action does make a difference. PCS members have won when they have united together to take action.

  • In the DWP we voted for strike action in January and have removed the threat of compulsory redundancies.
  • Following the threat of strike action in July, members in the Home Office won nearly 1,000 new jobs in the department.
  • In the autumn members in HM Revenue and Customs group won thousands of new jobs, and saved workplace nurseries from closure.
