Adult Learners Week 2014 27/03/2014

Posted by pcsdwpsheffield in Uncategorized.

The Union Learning Reps in DWP Sheffield Branch are planning to arrange a couple of trips for members in the run up to Adult Learners Week 2014 in June.

Some of the ideas we had were:

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet grand re-opening weekend 10th/11th May – not a lot of info yet but there will be loads on and hopefully if the weather it is good lots of fun. It says “Abbeydale awakes revealing a new gallery & displays set against a showcase of traditional crafts and skills, living history, community & family activities, live music, food and stalls!”

There are Sheffield Environment Weeks and lots of events round the city, including gardening and horticulture – would any members be interested in attending as a branch? http://www.sheffieldenvironment.org/events/2014/4

We could also arrange for members to go on one of the free guided tours of the Sheffield General Cemetery, the first Sunday of every month. http://www.gencem.org/events.php http://www.gencem.org/residents.php

In addition, there are a couple of special events at the Cemetery (which is just off Ecclesall Road):

Morning Song: Saturday 10th May – 10am RSPB-led walk to see and hear the Cemetery’s bird life. starts at the Anglican Chapel, Cemetery Road, S11.

Sudden Death – Poison Pie: Saturday 10th May – 2pm Hear stories of the tragic, comic and gruesome deaths of some of our residents. This year’s theme is pure poison!

The Royal National Institute for the Blind is organising a series of events in libraries across the country, “Make a Noise in Libraries (MANIL) Fortnight is an annual campaign to bring public libraries and blind and partially sighted people together to improve access to books and information.” 2-15th June Make a Noise in libraries: http://www.rnib.org.uk/livingwithsightloss/reading/services/rnibnationallibrary/manil/Pages/make_a_noise_in_libraries.aspx
