A couple of dates for diaries. Both events are in Sheffield, it would be great if anyone can make it, especially to the march and rally on 9 April in opposition to the loss of civil service jobs to the city.

Friday 1st April “Kill the Housing Bill!” Rally against the Housing and Planning Bill 5.30pm outside Town hall

Sheffield Trades Council has joined forces with Sheffield Defend Council Housing to hold this rally to raise awareness about this shocking attempt by the Tories to destroy social housing and impoverish councils at the same time. Let’s mobilise to stop it! Speakers to be confirmed. If passed the Bill will open up “right to buy” to Housing Association tenants for the first time. It will also end secure tenancies in social housing and dramatically raise rents for households earning £30,000 p.a. The Bill will restrict social housing to a temporary stopping place for the poorest families.

Saturday 9th April  “Northern Powerhouse – or Northern Poorhouse?” March and rally against job losses assemble Devonshire Green 12 noon for march and rally outside City Hall at 1300.

Mark Serwotka PCS General Secretary confirmed.

Sheffield Trades Council is hosting this rally in Sheffield on behalf of PCS to raise awareness about the hypocrisy of the Tory Government and to protest the loss of Civil Service jobs – for example BIS to close and moved to London! Other civil service jobs are at risk. Meanwhile Sheffield City Council and other “Northern Powerhouse” local authorities have been devastated by Osborne’s spending cuts causing the loss of many hundreds of jobs. Steel too has been left to die in our region and other manufacturing and service jobs are suffering. Poverty wages and insecure zero hours contracts are  becoming the norm. This is a regional demonstration and unions are encouraged to mobilise and bring banners etc.

Hope to see you there.
