Young Workers Week 2010

This year, Young Workers Week will be held between 27th Septemebr and 3rd October, with the spotlight on cuts and youth unemployment. This is particularly poignant for Jobcentre young workers as not only are many of them on fixed term contracts, soon to be facing redundancy, but they are also experiencing the unemployment of their friends and peers, seeing them on the dole queue and the other side of the Jobcentre counter.

Please see the national Young Workers Week Briefing.

In the branch the whole BEC have resolved to spend the week focusing on Young Members related activities, and we will be holding a number of events in our main offices.

Update:

Additionally, the regional Young Members Committee is organising both a demonstration against government attacks on young workers and young people, and also a gig to raise money and awareness. These will both take place on 9th October in Leeds – the gig will be at The Packhorse pub near Leeds Uni – again more info to follow.
